Big Day (Bird Race)

04 October 1998

by Christopher L. Wood

Big Day Statistics:

Comments:

“As in September, we started out in the Bloomington area and ended up at Lake Michigan at dusk.  We did not see a lot of rarities but did well on a number of groups.  Ten raptor species (counting Turkey Vulture), including 3 falcons (a Peregrine from our front deck was nice!), is a respectable total and 11 shorebird species in October is excellent.  We also tallied 7 woodpecker species, 11 sparrows and 15 warbler species (very good for October), thanks largely to Chris's sharp eyes and ears.”
