JAMAICA

7 - 10 December 1995

My wife and I made a short visit to Jamaica from 7-10 December 1995.  This trip was not a birding trip and in fact I was only able to bird two locations, the hotel where we stayed in Montego Bay and the Rocklands Feeding Station near Anchovy.  We stayed at the Jack Tar Village the entire time and went to Rocklands on the afternoon of the 8th  and 9th.  Below is an annotated list of the species we observed.

Birded grounds of Jack Tar Village, Montego Bay (JTV) on 7th (4-5 pm), 8th, 9th and 10th  (7:30 - 9 am each day)
Birded Rocklands Feeding Station (RFS) on 8th (2:30 - 4:30 pm) and 9th (2:00 - 4:30 pm)

Brown Pelican - one or two seen daily from JTV
Magnificent Frigatebird - male over JTV on 8th
Great Blue Heron - one over JTV on 9th
Great Egret - one to two daily in Montego Bay
Snowy Egret - one at airport in Montego Bay on 7th
Little Blue Heron - one in Montego Bay on 9th
Cattle Egret - abundant in Montego Bay
Turkey Vulture - common
Red-tailed Hawk - one over Montego Bay on 9th
Royal Tern - five to ten daily from JTV
White-crowned Pigeon - three coming to roost at JTV on 9th
White-winged Dove - three on 9th at JTV
Zenaida Dove - two on 7th at JTV
Common Ground-Dove - common at RFS
Caribbean Dove - one (or possibly two) at RFS on 9th
Olive-throated Parakeet - two fly overs on 8th; four well seen on 9th at RFS
Green-rumped Parrotlet - about six individuals at RFS on 8th
Jamaican Lizard-Cuckoo - one at RFS on 9th
Smooth-billed Ani - two at RFS on 8th
Antillean Palm Swift - two on 8th and 9th at JTV
Jamaican Mango - one at RFS on 8th
Streamertail - female at JTV on 7th, four males at RFS on 8th & 9th
Vervain Hummingbird - three at JTV on 7th, one on 8th; one at RFS on 9th
Jamaican Tody - one at RFS on 8th
Belted Kingfisher - one at JTV on 10th
Jamaican Woodpecker - two at RFS on 8th, four on 9th
Sad Flycatcher - one at RFS on 8th
Rufous-tailed Flycatcher - one at RFS on 9th
Loggerhead Kingbird - three at JTV daily, five at RFS on 8th & 9th
Cave Swallow - about twenty daily at JTV
White-chinned Thrush - one at RFS on 8th, two on 9th
Northern Mockingbird - common in Montego Bay
European Starling - common in Montego Bay
Jamaican Vireo - two to three at RFS on 8th & 9th
Blue Mountain Vireo - one at RFS on 8th
Northern Parula - common at RFS
Yellow Warbler - on at JTV on 7th
Cape May Warbler - two at JTV on 7th, two at RFS on 8th
Black-throated Blue Warbler - two at JTV daily, five at RFS on 8th & 9th
Yellow-throated Warbler - one at JTV 7th & 8th
Prairie Warbler - two at JTV daily, two at RFS on 8th
Palm Warbler - three at JTV daily
Arrow-headed Warbler - one at RFS on 9th
Black-and-white Warbler - one at RFS on 8th & 9th
American Redstart - one at JTV on 8th, three at RFS on 8th & 9th
Worm-eating Warbler - one at RFS on 9th
Ovenbird - one at RFS on 8th & 9th
Common Yellowthroat - one at RFS on 9th
Bananaquit - common at JTV and RFS
Jamaican Euphonia - three at RFS on 8th
Black-faced Grassquit - thirty+ at RFS on 8th & 9th
Orangequit - male at RFS on 8th, five there on 9th
Greater Antillean Bullfinch - two at RFS on 9th
Saffron Finch - two to three at RFS on 8th and 9th
Greater Antillean Grackle - common at JTV
Jamaican Oriole - two at RFS on 8th, one on 9th
