In my opinion, one of the best, easily accessable birding sites on the Yucatan coast is the Marin Botantical Garden near Puerto Morales. It is on the left side of the road as you are heading south on the Cancun-Tulum highway.

It has nice humid forest that gives way to mangroves. There are also a variety of ornamental plantings (with botanical names labeled). It is about a 30-40 minute drive from Cancun.

There is a nominal admission fee and usually someone there is the early morning to open the gate if it is locked.
