August 2000
by Kurt
Pohlman & Harvey King
Big Day Statistics:
- 44 species (see
checklist below)
- 0520 to 1855 hours
- Visiting:
Makakilo, Aiea Hts Trail, Kapiolani Park, Kuliouou Trail, Sea Life
Park, Nuupia Ponds, James Campbell N.W.R..
- Species
of Note: Semipalmated Plover (Early), Pectoral Sandpiper
(Early).
Comments:
The morning started out with the usual species. Harvey was able to
pick out a calling Erckel's
Francolin during the morning chorus. Up at Aiea Ridge Trail, I was able
to spot a Red
Whiskered Bulbul, but it flew away before Harvey could see it. For some
reason, we never saw
another one which is a fairly common bird in this area.
The regular spots produced the usual species and the staked out
Semipalmated Plover and
Pectoral Sandpiper were present. Still there is room for improvement in
this month.
